Kathy Najimy
Born: February 6, 1957 in San Diego, California
Hobbies: Skydiving and her garage band, "Hail Mary"
Her film roles include dizzy witches (Hocus Pocus) and nutty nuns
(Sister Act). She's starred with Alanis Morissette and Melissa
Etheridge in The Vagina Monologues, and recently in the
lesbian-laden If These Walls Could
Talk 2 for HBO. If that
wasn't enough to please
the GLBT community, actress/activist Kathy Najimy was also a grand
marshall of the 1997 Gay & Lesbian West Hollywood Pride March.
Most know her as the witty assistant on the TV sitcom Veronica's
Closet, or from her comedic roles in films like
Hope Floats, Soapdish,
and Sister Act. She's also the voice of the mother of a
possibly-gay teen on the animated show King of the Hill, and even
had a few guest
spots on Ellen.
Theater fans have enjoyed Najimy's talents for years in The Kathy and
Mo Show. Its recent HBO incarnation, Kathy and Mo: The Dark
Side, won Cable Ace Awards for her performance and her role as
Executive Producer.
Created and performed all over the country with comic pal Mo Gaffney
(who also guest-starred on Absolutely Fabulous), the original
Kathy
and Mo Show: Parallel Lives, garnered two Cable Ace Awards for the
special and an Obie Award for the Off-Broadway stage show.
Najimy's other stage credits include lead roles in Godspell,
Grease and her own solo show. She also directed several
Off-Broadway productions,
including Back to Bacharach and David, and was the resident
director of the Emmy Awardwinning New Image Teen Theater.
Married with a daughter, Najimy has won the hearts of many by ardently
supporting causes such as Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Planned
Parenthood, and PETA.
