The previous three installments, Mad Max, The Road Warrior, and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome proved epic successes for both Miller and Gibson, who was catapulted to fame after the first film hit in 1979.
Kick off the weekend with a lil' Ugly Betty love Friday night at 9 on ABC. This week Betty (America Ferrera) is feeling out of place after Daniel hires a new assistant and Matt has his own date to attend to. What happened to the episodes when everyone needed Betty to save the day?
Turn your TV to NBC at 8:30 p.m. to see a familiar face and hear that high-pitched voice we know and love. Will & Grace may have cast two actors in the title roles, but for true fans, the series lived and died by the hyper-hilarity of Jack (Sean Hayes) and Karen (Megan Mullally). Mullally brings some signature sparkle to another NBC sitcom tonight when she guest-stars opposite her real-life husband, Nick Offerman. With a woman as talented as she, there's bound to be fireworks in tonight's episode.
The latter will center on a group of male firefighters who are completely thrown off when a female arson investigator joins their squad.
"I'm a chimpanzee stepping behind the wheel of a Ferrari," Burroughs said of his foray into television from writing. "As long as somebody from Katalyst, CBS, or Showtime is there to shout, 'Red means stop,' we should all be fine and come out of this with some very nice television."
Another of Burroughs’s books, his early memoir Running With Scissors, was adapted into an excellent film starring Annette Bening in 2006, with a screenplay cowritten by the author.
If you're jonesing for some medical drama, check in to Mercy on NBC at 8 p.m. There are the occasional asides from the witty male nurse Angel, where notably a wonderful gay actor (Guillermo Diaz) is playing an as-yet-underdeveloped gay character. More meaty is Mad Men's Elizabeth Moss's role in tonight's episode. She guest-stars as a young mother suffering form leukemia. She told the New York Daily News, "I got to do some things I normally don't get to do" in this role. "It's heavy material, obviously, and also the treatment she's going through is physically harrowing," she said. "It's hard to talk enthusiastically on such a horrible treatment, but, wow, it was awesome. I get to wear a bald cap and prosthetics that take my eyebrows off."
With the marathon kicking off at 4 p.m., you can spend your whole Tuesday laughing at the rich and famous, courtesy of the the LGBTQ audience’s favorite funny girl, Kathy Griffin. Beginning with Kathy Griffin Is...Not Nicole Kidman and hitting every high, including Everybody Can Suck It, Strong Black Woman, Straight to Hell, and finally, possibly my favorite, She'll Cut a Bitch, it's all leading up to the premiere of her latest special at 9. If you missed any of the previous specials, are home sick, or are sadly underemployed in this wretched economy, take this Tuesday off to laugh. You have our permission.
